World market leader in steel tubes Vallourec cooperates with NRW startup

Mapudo, the Düsseldorf-based, innovative online marketplace for steel, is cooperating with the French conglomerate to jointly develop online business with turned part tubes.

In the future, customers will be able to purchase a special product line from Vallourec for the production of turned parts in mechanical engineering via Mapudo's online platform. The startup provides a fully automated sales process, so that even small orders and order quantities can be offered at a reasonable price. This enables retailers and customers to find each other more quickly, more cheaply and more efficiently.

The cooperation agreement with Vallourec is a further milestone for the Düsseldorf-based company. "This cooperation enables us to jointly approach turning mills and to align our respective online solutions with specific customer requirements," says Sebastian Grethe, Managing Director of Mapudo. Both sides see the cooperation as a win-win situation: Mapudo benefits from the steel tube manufacturer's industry know-how, Vallourec from the speed of the startup. "We were looking for innovative solutions for the distribution of our turned part tubes, as these special products have proven unsuitable for the established steel tube trade. The cooperation with a startup and its new sales approaches came at just the right time," emphasizes Christian Busch, Sales Manager for the online area at Vallourec in Düsseldorf.

Mapudo is the first startup with which Vallourec has cooperated. The cooperation between the two companies came about as part of the mentoring program of the Düsseldorf Economic Development Agency, in which Vallourec acted as mentor for Mapudo.
