Virtual worlds, created in Aachen

The mobile high-tech start-up bitstars has developed a platform with which customers can easily produce individual content for 3D Web, Virtual and Augmented Reality applications.

From virtual blueprints or instructions, where repair instructions are displayed directly on a machine, to virtual showrooms, where interior designers can present their ideas to a customer in their entirety – virtual worlds can be generated with just a few clicks and without programming experience using the "holobuilder" from bitstars. The content generated in this way can be integrated into web pages or used as an augmented or virtual reality app on Google Glass and smartphones.

Founded in 2012 as a spin-off of RWTH Aachen University, bitstars is regarded as the most successful German start-up in the field of digitization and construction. The company has now established itself as one of the leading providers of augmented reality technology for mobile devices. Until now, the development of such applications has been very complex, so they have mostly been sold as expensive, tailor-made software. With the internationally award-winning platform "holobuilder", bitstars has developed a product that makes it significantly easier for industry to access 3D and virtual reality technologies.

At its location in NRW, the company benefits in particular from the research environment of RWTH Aachen University and from the strong industrial landscape of the state as a customer base for its products. Construction companies in the USA have also become aware of bitstars and are now using, for example, virtual blueprints for their projects. In 2015, the Aachen start-up also opened a branch office in Silicon Valley as part of the German Accelerator Program in order to acquire further customers and investors there and to continue to develop steadily through the proximity to the innovative high-tech companies.

bitstars is one of the top performers of the location marketing campaign "Germany at its best: Nordrhein-Westfalen".
