thyssenkrupp plans new plant at Dortmund site

thyssenkrupp Steel is planning a new hot-dip coating line at its Dortmund location. It is scheduled to go on stream in 2020 and provide 100 new jobs.

The 375 meter long, 70 meter high and 90 meter wide plant will galvanize sheet metal for the automotive industry as well as for the construction and household appliance industries. The investment volume will be in excess of 100 million euros.

Among other things, the plant will accompany the reorientation of the automotive industry towards hot-dip galvanized products and supplement the capacities of the hot-dip coating line 8 already built in 2001. In this way, the service and supply of both lines can be guaranteed and bundled. Andreas Goss, CEO of thyssenkrupp Steel, underlines: "The investment also clearly demonstrates our strategy of systematically focusing on innovative technologies and markets with potential and thus securing the future of our business."

NRW Economics Minister Andreas Pinkwart holds the project in high regard: "The new hot-dip coating plant not only contributes to strengthening the industrial cluster in the Ruhr region. The use of innovative technologies is a also basic prerequisite for the international competitiveness of our steel industry". thyssenkrupp Steel is therefore creating ideal conditions for future-proof jobs in North Rhine-Westphalia.
