As a business and investment location, NRW is one of the leading regions in Europe – this is confirmed by the industry-leading ranking "European Cities and Regions of the Future 2023" by fDi intelligence, a subsidiary of the Financial Times Group.
In the 9th edition of this comparative location study, NRW is the best-placed German region in the overall ranking of the major regions, coming third behind the London and Paris metropolitan areas. The positive overall result is rounded off by consistently high ratings and top 5 rankings in other categories such as "Economic Potential" (3rd place), "Business Friendliness" (3rd place) and "Human Capital and Lifestyle" (5th place).
In the study, NRW impressed with its consistently high number of foreign direct investment projects over many years, its well-known high-performance industrial landscape as well as the dense university and research network and a large talent pool of qualified specialists.
Felix Neugart, CEO of NRW.Global Business, emphasizes: "NRW's great performance in this year's fDi location comparison underlines the state's outstanding position as an investment and innovation location within Germany and in competition with the European metropolitan regions. The roughly 22,000 international companies that have already located here are also aware of this. Together, we want to continue to drive forward the transformation of the economy and make NRW the first climate-neutral industrial location in Europe."
