Digital entrepreneurship, startup business models, digital transformation: These are the topics with which Prof. Dr. Kai Buehler at the University of Applied Sciences/Cologne concerns himself. He is also head of the Master's program in Digital Business and responsible for corporate cooperation. Born in Cologne, Buehler worked for several years in New York, Silicon Valley and Los Angeles, where as founder and CEO he successfully set up and sold various startups in the technology and media sectors – including the first mobile bonus program for TV, Watchpoints, which he sold to the listed company Viggle Inc. (NASDAQ: VGGL). He was also co-founder and CEO of the Cologne-based startup plan_b media AG, a leading provider of mobile entertainment services with offices in Cologne, Vienna and New York, which was acquired by a T-Mobile venture.
As an angel investor with dual citizenship, Buehler is today involved in various high-tech and e-commerce startups in the USA and Germany. He is a mentor for accelerator programs such as Techstars Berlin, HYPE/1.FC Köln Accelerator and the Cologne Founder Institute.
In his new function as head of the NRW.INVEST international office, Kai Buehler is the first point of contact for investors from Silicon Valley. The foreign representation promotes NRW as a business and innovation location at trade fairs, seminars, specialist forums and individual discussions. Interested companies and potential investors receive information about North Rhine-Westphalia as a business location, the investment climate, legal and social conditions in Germany as well as about industries and market opportunities.
