DHL planning parcel centre in commercial zone on Lake Silbersee

Based on a joint declaration of intent, the city of Dormagen, Rhine district ofNeuss, Deutsche Post DHL Group (DHL), RWE Power and NRW.INVEST have agreed to DHL setting up a green logistics project by Lake Silbersee in Delrath, Dormagen.

The approx. 50 ha plot is owned by RWE Power. In its ‘letter of intent’, DHL expresses interest in building an ultra-modern parcel centre over an area of 140,000 m2, creating some 600 jobs. It is estimated that operation will begin in 2022.

The region’s potential for growth and innovation in the fields of logistics, aluminium processing and engineering is expected to attract new investment. The Rhine district of Neuss and cities involved therefore want to work together to open up the Silbersee development area in Delrath through intercommunal collaboration.

Dormagen’s Mayor Eric Lierenfeld emphasised that implementation of the project is dependent on having a direct freeway link with the A57. The Rhine district of Neuss therefore wants to push ahead with this freeway link. “The connection to the A57 will enable us to significantly relieve pressure across the entire region. There would be 10,000 fewer vehicles on the B9 each day. The Rhine district will therefore submit an appropriate planning application to the Düsseldorf regional government,” explains District Administrator Hans-Jürgen Petrauschke.

Thanks to this declaration of intent and the pooling of joint interests of various players, Dormagen as a business location will receive a long-term boost in the form of around 150 million euros of investment.

NRW.INVEST will be supporting the initiative and accompanying the project in terms of content.
