The Leverkusen-based chemical company Bayer intends to promote regenerative agriculture with an investment of 220 million euros. At a new research and development facility in Monheim, Bayer will develop new crop protection solutions in the near future and bring them to market maturity. The facility is scheduled to be fully operational by 2026.
The innovative products are designed to reduce the impact of agriculture on the environment. In this way, Bayer hopes to come a step closer to achieving one of its sustainability goals: to reduce the environmental impact of crop protection products by 30 percent by 2030. To this end, the company is building a 28,000-square-meter facility that will house approximately 200 employees.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, NRW Minister President Hendrik Wüst emphasized the significance of Bayer's investment decision for NRW: "The chemical industry is of systemic importance for our entire economy. Bayer's decision to locate here confirms the attractiveness of NRW as a location for investment and innovation. At the same time, it is an important signal as we head toward becoming a climate-neutral industrial state.”
