Sino-German Industrial City Alliance promotes cooperation

At Hannover Messe, representatives of the German and Chinese business sectors gave the starting signal for a bilateral company database.

Established in 2016, the Chinese-German Industrial City Alliance brings together nine German and 16 Chinese industrial cities. From North Rhine-Westphalia, these include Aachen, Bottrop and Wuppertal, as well as Cologne since this year. The alliance focuses on the economic and trade exchange between the two countries and in particular wants to establish direct contact between companies. This is of great benefit to small and medium-sized companies in the member cities as the alliance gives them unique access to China. The new online company database informs the members about partners and projects.

Petra Wassner, CEO of NRW.INVEST, underlined the potential of the Sino-German alliance to initiate and implement specific projects. In particular, the topics of environmental protection and renewable energies are future challenges for economic cooperation between China and Germany – an area where NRW can contribute not only experience, but also technological know-how. Matthias Machnig, State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy, emphasized the close partnership between China and Germany and proposed the expansion of the alliance to 50 member cities as soon as possible.
