RWTH Aachen University is supporting the Viessmann Group from Hesse in the development of a simple ventilator.
Spirits manufacturers are supplying disinfectants, automotive suppliers are producing tubes for ventilators and fashion brands are providing masks: To avoid bottlenecks in the medical sector, many companies are currently converting their production lines, which is often a challenging process. As an expert in the field of medical technology and with the Luisenhospital as an associated teaching hospital, RWTH Aachen University supports companies with this conversion. For example, a team from the E.ON Energy Research Center (ERC) at RWTH Aachen University, working together with the Viessmann Group from Hesse, has developed a simple ventilator.

In the joint project, standard assemblies were used to enable rapid production of the ventilators in large quantities. Viessmann itself actually specializes in air conditioning and energy solutions. The company was able to convert one of its production lines for wall-mounted gas-fired boilers within a few days and even use components from the line for the ventilation units. The devices meet the basic requirements for invasive ventilation of Covid-19 patients.
