In Langenfeld, the online supermarket will open its largest fulfillment center to date.

Food delivery services are experiencing a real boom in times of Corona. The Dutch start-up Picnic, which launched its German business in North Rhine-Westphalia in spring 2018, is also benefiting from this. The online supermarket already operates two goods centers in Viersen and Herne, and now the largest center to date is to be added in Langenfeld in the district of Mettmann.

"The fulfillment center in Langenfeld is an important milestone enabling us to supply many more households in NRW," says Frederic Knaudt from Picnic's founding team in Germany. The new location covers 16,500 square meters and is expected to create 300 to 400 jobs in the long term. The opening is planned for mid-March.

So far, Picnic supplies around 40 cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and relies on a special logistics system: Orders are packed daily in the goods centers and distributed to so-called Picnic hubs. From there, the food is delivered direct to customers in electric vans.
