NRW.INVEST representative offices in China celebrate anniversaries

Chinese companies see NRW as a bridge to the European market. The foreign offices of NRW.INVEST in Nanjing and Shanghai have made a decisive contribution to this development. NRW.INVEST celebrated the milestone anniversaries of the two representative offices at Düsseldorf's Industrieclub.

Twenty years ago, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia opened its first representative office in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, China. This step provided the basis for NRW to become the leading location for Chinese investors in Germany today. This was followed ten years later by the opening of the representative office in Shanghai.

"Our representative offices in Nanjing and Shanghai were and are important for economic relations between our two countries. Looking back enables us to develop a perspective for the future. We should use the close cooperation of the last decades to work even more closely together on important topics of the future, such as China 2025 and Industry 4.0 or electric mobility," emphasized NRW's Economics Minister Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart in his speech at the ceremony.

Today, North Rhine-Westphalia is the No. 1 investment location for Chinese companies in Germany. More than 1,100 companies from Greater China are based in NRW, including numerous companies from Jiangsu Province and Shanghai. "NRW offers optimum location conditions for the Chinese economy, especially in the areas of logistics and research and development," says Petra Wassner, CEO of NRW. INVEST. "Our state has an excellent reputation in China. Due to the high location quality and the connection via Belt & Road, we have become a premium location for Chinese companies."

In 1998, the automotive supplier Jiangnan Mould & Plastic Technology became the first company from Jiangsu to invest in Düsseldorf. Subsequently, renowned companies from Jiangsu Province and the greater Shanghai area followed, including the construction machinery manufacturer Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG), the transmission and drive technology specialist Nanjing High Accurate Drive Equipment Manufacturing (NGC), the manufacturer of drive chains, transmissions and sprockets Donghua, as well as the manufacturer of lighting solutions Sengled.

NRW.INVEST now has Chinese offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shanghai and Chengdu.
