Breaking chains of infection via app

The British company Vodafone supports cross-state research project PEPP-PT as a technology partner.

How can the coronavirus continue to be contained while the population and the economy slowly return to everyday life? One of the possible measures is corona tracking apps which show users whether they have been in contact with an infected person. In this way, chains of infection can be quickly detected and interrupted. The digital distance measurement works using Bluetooth sensor technology – while at the same time meeting the strict European data protection standards. The corresponding technology is being developed by the Europe-wide project "Pan-European Privacy-Preserving Proximity Tracing" (PEPP-PT).

With its expertise in the field of data communication, Vodafone has supported the country-wide project from the very beginning: "This technology 'made in Europe' helps each and every one of us to protect our loved ones. It helps our economy not to lose the race against the coronavirus. And it helps our society to return to normality more quickly once the number of cases has been curbed," reports Vodafone Germany CEO Hannes Ametsreiter. Among other things, Vodafone's network experts carry out extensive hardware tests with smartphones in their own test laboratories in Düsseldorf.
