The all-electric mini jets will enable emission-free and fast travel in the region.
After the E-car comes the E-airplane: With the Lilium Jet developed in Germany, emission-free, regional journeys can be undertaken – significantly faster than by rail or road. The project is still in the test phase, but North Rhine-Westphalia is already investing in the future market: In partnership with the manufacturing start-up Lilium, the airports of Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn want to facilitate the commercial operation of air taxis.
The goal of Lilium is to establish an affordable airline service that will save travelers in the region time. In only 30 minutes, cities such as Aachen, Bielefeld, Münster and Siegen can then be reached fully electrically and emission-free by electric jet. One air taxi can transport four passengers.
Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst also welcomes the project: "North Rhine-Westphalia is a model region for future mobility. We want digitally networked mobility not only to be researched and developed in North Rhine-Westphalia, but also to become reality as soon as possible. This is why we support and promote many future ventures and research projects here in North Rhine-Westphalia."
