Amazon opens logistics center in Werne

This makes NRW the location with more Amazon logistics centers than anywhere else in Germany.

Amazon has had a presence in Werne in the district of Unna since 2010 and so this attractive location has now become well-established. The market leader for internet retail invested 28 million euros in its technical facilities and on 22 March 2018, opened a 100,000 m2 logistics center here – the equivalent of 14 football fields. Using the latest materials handling technology, same-day deliveries can now be made to customers across the Ruhr region and in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Bremen, Hannover and Hamburg.

Amazon is also an important employer in the region: over 1,500 employees now work at the logistics center in Werne.

NRW currently has more Amazon logistics centers than any other location in Germany: Werne is the third facility in the region of Amazon’s 11 logistics centers across Germany after Rheinberg and the logistics center in Dortmund, which just opened at the end of 2017. And more are planned. An additional logistics center will soon be added in Mönchengladbach extending over an area of 55,000 m2 and offering over 1,000 full-time posts. Some 6,700 people currently work for Amazon in NRW.
