The U.S. company expects demand for respiratory protection masks to continue after the Corona pandemic.

3M wants to produce up to 150 million FFP2 masks per year in Hilden in the future. Production has already begun, and the plant is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the second quarter. Customers in Europe will be supplied from the North Rhine-Westphalian site. Although the US company has already greatly expanded its mask production, it is not yet able to fully meet demand from the healthcare, food and pharmaceutical industries.

Also after the pandemic, 3M expects to continue to receive orders from governments and companies that want to equip themselves with a supply of masks. Likewise, he said, it is expected that people will use masks to protect themselves in their private lives, for example during the cold season. "In this respect, I have no doubt that the plant in Hilden will be working to capacity," says 3M Central Europe boss Dirk Lange.

Respiratory protection masks are just one product in 3M's broad portfolio: The company offers 55,000 products for almost every area of life and holds more than 25,000 patents. The Group is located in North Rhine-Westphalia with its German headquarters in Neuss.
