The research landscape in NRW is being enriched by a further technology provider. The US specialty chemicals group Cabot Corporation has announced the establishment of a technology center in Münster, Westphalia. According to Cabot, the decisive factor in the choice of location was the proximity to several leading battery research facilities, local universities and other technology companies in Europe.

The long-established company, founded in 1882 and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, develops solutions for battery technologies. In the future, the development of battery materials in Europe will be driven from Münster and technical cooperation with customers will be managed – for the entire EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

An expansion in 2024 has already been announced. Cabot has also decided to join the European Battery Alliance (EBA), which brings together more than 800 companies and institutions along the entire value chain for batteries. The aim is to create a competitive and sustainable value chain for the production of battery cells in Europe.
