"Top locations": NRW and Rhein-Kreis Neuss vie for investments in Japan

Düsseldorf/Rhein-Kreis Neuss, 12 May 2017 - District Director Dirk Brügge and Robert Abts, head of the district economic development agency, have been working to acquire Japanese investment and cooperation in Tokyo together with the state economic development agency NRW.Invest. Brügge presented the business location as an automotive supply and logistics region to 240 Japanese companies. The participating companies are looking for cooperation opportunities in Germany or are interested in investing. The event was moderated by NRW.Invest-Japan Director Georg Löer.

"We are delighted that Rhein-Kreis Neuss is participating as a partner of our location marketing campaign 'Germany at its best' at our forum in Tokyo on the topic 'Next Generation Mobility', says Petra Wassner, CEO of NRW.Invest. The digitization of the economy provides new investment opportunities and cooperation possibilities for Japanese companies in NRW.

The Rhein-Kreis Neuss impresses with its outstanding infrastructure as well as its excellent economic figures. This is valued in particular by foreign investors: "The Rhein-Kreis Neuss district has around 50 Japanese companies in its eight towns and municipalities. This makes us one of the top locations for Japanese investments besides Düsseldorf," said Brügge. In the previous year, half of the foreign direct investments made in the Rhine and Erft areas came from the Asia region. Many Japanese companies have their German or European headquarters in the district. Well-known brands such as Toshiba, Kyocera or Yakult and renowned automotive suppliers such as Mitsuboshi Belting or the textile and fiber manufacturer Asahi Kasei are based here.

Brügge and Abts also used their stay in Tokyo to visit some of the parent companies of the firms based in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss district. Brexit could also result in the settlement of Japanese companies here. "Many companies that previously had their headquarters in the UK are currently looking for suitable sites on the European mainland. This is why we have informed the seminar participants comprehensively about our location to convince them of our advantages," said Abts.
