Oerlikon opens Europe's largest plant in Bielefeld

The coating specialist Oerlikon has opened a new plant in Bielefeld. This means that the largest European coating plant for tools is now located in NRW.

Combining three existing plants to form one large one? Oerlikon has taken on this task and is now creating Europe's largest coating plant in Bielefeld. The company is headquartered in Liechtenstein.

On floor space of 6,000 square meters, the expertise of three locations has been combined with state-of-the-art surface technologies for machining, forming and plastics processing. Customers from many sectors are to benefit, from the automotive and pharmaceutical industries to tool making. "We are very proud of this center. Our significant investment in the Bielefeld customer center once again underscores the importance of the German market for our company and our growth strategy," explained Marc Desrayaud, Head of Oerlikon Balzers Industrial Solutions. Customers in over 100 coating centers worldwide – there are 12 in Germany alone – will benefit from the location in the future. Bielefeld will be the first center to offer the market innovation Baliq Unique, the one-of-a-kind family of color coatings from Oerlikon Balzers, as the latest complement to the complete portfolio of solutions.

"The city and the region were an important reason for the decision to combine the previous locations Hildesheim, Spenge and Herford in one North German center," explained Marc Desrayaud. Geographically, Bielefeld lies exactly between these three places. Ostwestfalen-Lippe is also home to well-known German companies such as Bertelsmann, Miele, Dr. Oetker, Seidensticker, Schüco and Wincor Nixdorf. "This brings with it a solid infrastructure and well-trained personnel – all important factors in order to be able to act successfully," Desrayaud added.
