RWTH Aachen University has opened a new research center for electric motors at Ford-Werke in Cologne. On an area of 1,000 square meters, the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) is working together with partners from science and industry on the further development of one of the most important electric motor components – the hairpin stator.

"Efficient production processes for e-motors are of central importance for the success of electromobility," says Head of PEM Professor Achim Kampker. In order to be able to develop these, the new demonstration line maps all the process steps. The "HaPiPro²" project aims to make the previously complex production of e-motors significantly less expensive in the future and thus shorten their time to market. The NRW Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action is funding the project with a total volume of 5.3 million euros.

"For the climate-friendly transport of the future, electromobility is of particular importance. NRW is already making an important contribution with strong companies from the automotive industry and high-quality research," says Mona Neubaur, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy. "The HaPiPro2 project will create optimal conditions for groundbreaking innovations at the long-established automotive location of Cologne. This is also good news for sustainably secure jobs."
