Düsseldorf's port to become a digital center

Two leading digital companies – the online travel portal Trivago and the Japanese company Wacom, the world market leader in digital pen technology – are locating their headquarters in the MedienHafen.

In order to create space for new growth, Trivago is expected to move into its new headquarters, planned as a global campus, directly at the port basin in March 2018. In September the foundations were laid for the futuristic construction costing approx. 200 million euros. The campus provides space for up to 2,100 employees on 30,000 square meters of office area. Trivago attaches importance to a health-conscious and creatively stimulating work atmosphere. For example, in addition to imaginatively designed offices and spacious terraces and balcony areas, there will be a jogging track almost as long as a sports field lap on the roof.

The company is regarded as Düsseldorf's most successful startup. Founded in 2005, Trivago now operates 52 country platforms in 33 languages and generates annual sales of 500 million US dollars (2015). Trivago is remaining faithful to its hometown: Despite numerous competitors, when looking for the right location for its new headquarters, the company opted for Düsseldorf. Mayor Thomas Geisel is also pleased that the new building "will open a new chapter for the Düsseldorf port".

The surrounding area is proving to be increasingly attractive for companies in the digital economy: The Japanese Wacom Group, the leading manufacturer of interactive displays, graphics tablets and digital pens, has established its new European headquarters in the neighborhood. Wacom will employ up to 190 people here in the future. The international company consciously opted for the Düsseldorf location in order to network more intensively with the creative and digital economy of the city and to seek creative and conceptual exchange.
