The vast majority of the more than 3.5 million trucks on German roads are powered by internal combustion engines, but electrification is progressing step by step. The expansion of a high-performance charging infrastructure plays a major role here. Aral and its e-mobility division Aral pulse have now established the first European charging corridor for electrically powered trucks.
In the future, e-trucks will be able to charge at high-performance charging stations along the 600-kilometer Rhine-Alpine corridor. Unlike normal wall boxes for e-cars, which supply eleven to 22 kilowatts (kW), the new charging stations can provide 300 kW. Within 45 minutes, the length of the legally required break for drivers, vehicles can fill up with green electricity at Aral pulse truck stops. One charge will provide a range of up to 200 kilometers.
Six stations are already in place. These are located in Schwegenheim, Bensheim, Rüsselsheim, Rheinböllen, Düsseldorf and Dortmund. Two more are to be installed in Bad Honnef and Cologne. This would electrify a large part of one of Europe's busiest logistics routes, linking the Rhine-Neckar and Rhine-Main metropolitan areas with the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. Passenger cars will also be able to use the stations.
