Under the new umbrella "Research Alliance Ruhr", the university locations of Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg and Essen are intensifying their previous collaboration.

With more than 120,000 students and nearly 1,300 professors, the University Alliance Ruhr is one of the largest and most powerful science locations in Germany. In order to benefit even more from each other in the future, the alliance will establish four new research centers and one college by 2025. The state government is supporting the Research Alliance Ruhr project to the tune of 75 million euros.

Ruhr University Bochum, Dortmund Technical University and the University of Duisburg-Essen have been working together since 2007. The new research centers will address future topics such as sustainable solutions in chemistry, data security and holistic medicine. In the long term, companies as well as start-ups in the region will benefit from the research and innovations of the Research Centers.

The investment is also expected to further increase the international significance of the location: "With these new structures, the Ruhr region is becoming more attractive for scientists from all over the world who want to address the pressing issues of the future," says Prof. Axel Schölmerich, Rector of Ruhr University Bochum.
