The foundation stone has been laid for the construction of Germany's first e-commerce campus in Bornheim near Bonn. The "benuta one" project by the European online carpet retailer benuta in collaboration with the construction company Goldbeck combines all the prerequisites for digital commerce. It offers space for administration, storage and presentation as well as studios for content creation. An office complex, a logistics hall and a showroom with a total area of around 14,500 square meters are planned.
The goal is to develop a comprehensive ecosystem that fosters collaboration among companies and shapes the future of digital retail. This collaboration will offer new market and growth opportunities in online retail to young direct-to-consumer (D2C) companies, i.e., companies that sell directly to end customers. The campus will generate 280 new jobs. The project was supported by NRW.Global Business.
The buildings are assembled on site using modular construction methods. They meet high sustainability standards and are equipped with photovoltaic systems, heat pumps, green roofs, and rainwater harvesting systems that conserve resources.
Christoph Becker, Mayor of Bornheim, explains: “The benuta one Campus is a prime example of modern, sustainable economic development in our region. With its central location between Cologne and Bonn and its focus on sustainability, this project strengthens NRW as a pioneer of digital change.”
