Steel logistics hub worth 12 million euros launches operations in Duisburg

New Haeger & Schmidt Logistics building strengthens Duisburg as a business location for high-quality steel products

12 million euros, 9,000 square meters in size and space inside for 60,000 tons of high-quality steel products: Haeger & Schmidt Logistics (HSL) has put its new trimodular steel logistics hub into operation on Duisburg's Stahlinsel (“steel island”). This further strengthens Duisburg as a business location and logistics hub for high-quality steel products.

The Austrian Felbermayr Group, to which HSL belongs, is highly satisfied with its investment. "With the opening of this state-of-the-art warehouse, we are further consolidating our offering as a full-service logistics provider. This enormously expands our capabilities in the distribution of high-quality steel products," said managing owner Horst Felbermayr at the opening ceremony in early February. "The response on the market has been very good. More than half of the warehouse space has already been booked," HSL managing director Heiko Brückner also revealed. "With the new building, HSL is setting the course for significant growth at the Duisburg site."

The heart of the multifunctional hub is the heatable 9,000 square meter steel hall with a capacity of around 60,000 tons for high-quality steel products. Most recently, an overhead traveling crane with a load capacity of 40 tons was installed in the hub. Two tracks, each with 210 meters of rails, lead to the hall for handling trains, which can also be used by trucks. In addition, the new building will be connected to the large existing hall via a covered coil ferry. The warehouse complex is therefore ready for the handling and dispatch of heavy goods.
